FOCUS - Winter 2002/3
Introduction - By Dean Brown
Welcome to the fourth edition of focus, the quarterly performa newsletter. This edition contains news on the latest industry developments, events in the world of GIPS and enhancements to the products and services that performa provide.
As another year passes and a new one begins, recent surveys indicate that the number of companies complying with GIPS is increasing rapidly. The idea of GIPS as a marketing advantage for those companies that are compliant is gradually being succeeded by the realisation that not being compliant will be a competitive disadvantage. This raises the question of value for both compliant and non-compliant firms. Both types of firm want to know if being GIPS compliant offers anything other than being able to complete a check box on a consultant's RFP. Over the past year, Performa have been working with a number of Clients to answer this question and add further value to the GIPS process. This has been achieved by providing additional features such as management reporting, enhanced marketing reporting, and the flexibility to allow PerformaGlobal to be distributed throughout the firm in a managed and controlled environment. This has also enabled our clients to distribute a wealth of information right through their organisations. These clients have then been able to rethink their project scope and available business opportunities, both before and after compliance has been met.
I would like to thank Elizabeth Tan of PricewaterhouseCoopers, for her guest article entitled GIPS: Going for Gold.
I do hope you enjoy this edition of focus
